1 of those 2 years ( 2017-18 ) falls under the possible strike/lockout year if a deal is not reached after the current one ends in 2016-17

meaning kobe would be like 500 points from passing kareem and not even be able to play

this is why kobe hasnt informed mitch of any possible extension. hes waiting to see how bad the 2 sides are after his current contract is up

then a lockout/strike in 2017-18 would probably strip kobe of another 750 points ( out of 30 possible missed games/ thats if the season even exists )

Seriously though, I never knew that somehow. Seems kind of dumb to me that they don't combine regular season and playoff points. When they talk about "Career points" it would make sense that they count the most important games too.
