Ras Al Ghul is as much a cartoonish super-villian as anyone else.

and the Joker is not cartoonish at all. He is one sick, sadistic son-of-a-b*tch.

The Joker is just lame. I would have killed him a long time ago, and moved the hell on. Ras has a higher calling. He is a patriot in the cause of The Earth itself. He should be applauded for his cause.

Really none of Batman's villains are cartoony.

They all have a pretty realistic story as to how they came to be, of course with the exception of R'as al Ghul. Every Batman character could realistically exist in the real world and that is part of what makes Batman so great

Most of Batman's villains could not exist in the real world, or they would only be able to pull off one crime. Joker is a piece of crap, and would have been killed by me a long time ago. The mobsters and Ras, The Penguin, are the only good villains in the Batman Rogue's gallery.

I don't understand; wouldn't Batman himself be considered cartoonish? If your criteria for a good villain is based on realism, why do you allow a pass for the main protagonist?
