Default Should Cavs sign Drew Gooden (as rumored)? Stromile Swift? Joe Smith?

Obviously Gooden and Smith are the better players of the three.

Getting either one would be pretty good

Drew gooden is absolute garbage. I wouldn't mind trying out stromile swift. He's like a poor mans Amare. He's extremely athletic but it never just panned out for him.

I still dont know why Stroshow is in the equation but i'll take Smith, Gooden, then Stro in that order.

I know next to nothing about Swift outside of reputation. We don't get too many Memphis games in this area and I just never really followed the guy.

All in all, I'm the minority here. I think we should just stand pat.

Smith adds depth, and a jump shot, but he can't guard centers and he just takes minutes away from Hickson. Why? Hickson scores inside, Smith scores outside. What's the difference unless you bring Smith in when Z goes out.

And like I said in the trade rumors thread, what do you do if we bring in Gooden? Do you put Varejao back on the bench and start Gooden? He was starting before and you could argue that Varejao has actually gotten worse in the last 2 seasons instead of better. So what happens when Wallace comes back? Does he start?

Do you guys really want to put up with Gooden's inconsistency again, night after night?

All in all, I'm in favor of giving the minutes to Hickson and Jackson, but if we have to sign someone I say Smith is the answer at this point.

Sign Smith. If you want a championship now, Hickson's rookie mistakes aren't going to get you there right now. Almost every other game he'll have three to five big rookie mistakes. In the game in Atlanta recently he got embarrassed, then in the game in Miami he got blocked by Wade on a two-handed dunk. Those types of things can cost you games, he's not ready for his back-up roll yet.

Joe is the way to go, I feel. You know what you will get out of him on a nightly basis whereas Drew Gooden is really all over the place, not just with his results, but with his professionalism as well.

All players make mistakes, and if you think you're gonna see Joe Smith dunk the ball at all, you're gonna be disappointed.

I'd rather see him make mistakes now, than next year when we could possibly lose Varejao and Wally, and Wallace will be on the trading block. Or are you still naive enough to believe there's gonna be a quality PF out there that we can use at the trade deadline?

There's a slim slim slim possibility that Utah will trade Boozer if they believe he is gonna leave them, but he's pretty injury prone, so for all we know he won't even be playing at the trade deadline.

Check out the NBA website, they have the Cavs logo next to Joe Smith when you go to his player page? But no deal has been announced? Nothing like this for any of the other released guys.

It wasn't the fact he missed the dunk, it's the fact he underestimated Wade as a blocker and took the dunk, he should've went up and under the basket for layup. Again, his inexperience shows on that play. And there's been recent games where he makes four of five mistakes in a three minute span. So in any case I wouldn't want to see Smith dunk the ball anyway. Thanks anyway though for proving nothing there.

In either case he won't be ready for next season anyway to take on a big roll. So you'd rather have him make mistakes now and possibly cost us important games right NOW when we're in such good position to get deep in the playoffs. Considering we have no clue how we're going to play next year. Just awesome logic there from you.

Lots of people underestimate Dwayne Wade's ability to block shots. He's a SG. He's like 6'4" or something. That's sortof the point?

It's one of the most basic coaching techniques for big men to teach them to go up strong and draw the foul. Not try to go "up and under the basket for a layup."

If a reverse layup was a high percentage shot, they wouldn't make the highlight reels on sports center every night.

Wade just made a good play. Deal with it.

You're the one who said our seeding didn't matter so what do you care if we lose games now?

The point is to develop a rookie in games that don't matter so that he is ready in games that do. Wallace already went down. Smith is old. Varajao is useless offensively. Z's been hurt this year. What happens when someone else goes down? You'll wish he had the experience then.
