Default Question For Ya'll, Representation

Question For Ya'll, *Representation*

I got this idea from an argument me and my n*ggas was just having and we're just drunk anway. OK. Picture this scenario. Aliens have just taken over the Earth. You're the last hip-hop head on Earth, therefore, the last representation of the hip-hop culture. The aliens tell you that they want to retain some parts of human culture, but they are still going to kill you. So they ask you to give them one single hip-hop album from which they can best learn about hip-hop culture, and try to emulate it. So in essence, you're giving them an album that represents the way you would want hip-hop to be represented. Almost like, if you were teaching a hip-hop class and you could use one album as your text book......

What album would you give them and why?

----------------------------------------------

This might sound a little crazy, but I would probably give them DMX's "It's Dark and Hell is Hot." It's not my favorite album of all time, nor do I consider it the best, but I feel that it is one of the most complete albums in hip-hop history. It has the pain, the crime, the inner struggle, the b*tches, the weed, the parties, the gangsters, God, The Devil, the lyricism, the beats, the chill wit your lady jam, the party jam, the smoke a blunt jam, the bout to rob a n*gga get hype jam, the tortured soul jam, the posse jam, the despair, the hope, the darkness, the light, the bullsh*y, the deep sh*t, the conscienceness. This album just had everything that is hip-hop. The only thing it's missing is the flossy, jiggy sh*t, which I feel like we could do with a little less of anyway.

Illmatic pretty much has all of the elements that does, but not quite the energy and emotion, which is why I didn't pick it instead.

Well then phuck those punk motherphuckas! The last man alive is gettin the raw deal here, nothing to gain. If I was in this position I'd give them a Creedence Clearwater Revival tape.

This actually a really good thread idea. I would probably choose this:

This is one of the most bitten records of all time. Cats have lifted concepts, hooks, and lines from this record wholesale. It is one of the albums from the first Golden Age of Hip Hop that still holds up.

illmatic, no question.

too many styles/flows/dope beats on there to compete with. nas was on a different level at that point. his flow and lyrics were an amalgam of g rap and rakim, both of whom are top 10 or thereabouts. and yet it was the case of the student out-performing the master. he had the introspection, braggadocio and narrative joints all down perfectly, and carried the album on the strength of his delivery.

Ol' Looten Plunder would select AmeriKKKa's Most Wanted. The album is groundbreaking because it was a bicoastal project, and it featured The Bombsquad and Ice Cube at their most dangerous. The album speaks to hip hop's ability to speak the truth to power, and is something that a hip hop head would want to relate to someone who does not know about the hip hop culture and the music that provides it's soundtrack. Hip hop is not as nihilistic and materialistic as it is made out to be.
