Default Obamacare goes into effect, side effects already appearing

Health-insurance rates already are rising even more quickly than they had been in the past because of concern about the costs that will be imposed by Obamacare. Various kinds of insurance products and services are being discontinued.
I don't think people really realize what's about to happen here. I think this could be big, very big. Many people are in much worse shape than me. Let's not forget the law requires you to buy insurance. But the insurance companies now have to insure illegal aliens, every dead beat, hep. C. drug abuser, and AIDs activists. They HAVE to raise rates or face bankruptcy. But don't worry guess who's there to pick up the pieces? Big sister government. You'll have to get their insurance. They'll run it like they run Medicaid, ie into the ground. Doctors are not getting paid and so will close up shop. Health care will have to be rationed because there won't be any service providers.

The plan lacks immensely in sensibility and practicality, but of course to the people who pushed it through, that was never a concern to begin with. All that matters for the upcoming election cycles is that they can tout the headline "we got universal healthcare!" and nevermind how the rest of the story reads.

Part of the problem in America, too, which applies to everyone across the spectrum, is that people just go to the doctor too damn much. Often because it's covered by their insurance, they just figure the trip is free so if they have a little boo-boo, why not go see the doctor?

Medicine is a business just like anything else, and doctors are always happy to see more patients, do more surgeries, and push more pills even if its not really necessary. Remember how Brandon Roy tore his meniscus last year in the playoffs and the doctors said he needed surgery, but he decided to play anyway? I guess he didnt really "need" surgery afterall (although I understand he got it after the playoffs). Doctors ALWAYS recommend surgery, because they get paid to do it. It's like asking a car salesman if now's a good time to buy a new car. What do you think they're gonna say? And because laypeople know absolutely nothing about medicine, the hustle is that much easier. People have this naive conception that doctors are there just to look out for you. They're people running or working for a business. They are trying to make money.

The same thing happened to me when I was younger, I tore my meniscus playing soccer and was scheduled to have surgery in a couple weeks. Well by the time I was due in for surgery, I was already feeling fine, but of course they put me under the knife anyway, and then had me sign up for 6 weeks of physical therapy. Again, medicine is a business. Of course a doctor is going to recommend surgery any time he can, that's how he makes money! Just like a car salesman is going to recommend you get a new car or a lawyer is gonna recommend you sue anyone who wronged you.

People get a cut on their hand and go to the doctor to get it disinfected. They figure since their insurance covers it, it's free. But more doctor trips means higher demand, which means higher insurance premiums. And that's only speaking of instances people go to the doctor when they dont need to. That's not even accounting for all the people who do need medical help simply because they made dumbass choices and have an unhealthy lifestyle.

There's just too many peeps in this country, to be honest. It's dragging down the quality of life.

they JUST passed it. some right wing analyst tried to bring this up on Bill Maher's panel and they laughed at her because none of it has even had a chance to take effect yet, and most of it is supposedly designed to take effect over the longterm. its typical right wing bitching and screaming DAYS after its passed

all right wing does is cry the worst. its funny how people keep buying into the wolf cries over and over again. what happened to socialism again? oh thats right nothings really changed. people are so f'in dumb.

This law is just ludicrous. Making health insurance mandatory will make the poor even poorer real fast. Why should there be a law to mandate health insurance??? It should be the choice of American citizens, not the decisions of idiotic government.

Edit: Here is a video explaining the gist of what the law is about. I'm still unsure what to think about it after watching it.

The government is going to give people who make less than x amount of dollars a year a credit(I think it's 20K, but I may be wrong) and also the unemployed so that way they can be insured as well.

That sounds much better than I originally thought. I guess it will help the poor as well as regulate the health care industry. The insurance companies do jack their rates up pretty high. I think with this law taking effect, they will have to compete more than they are now, which will help reduce the prices (sort of like auto insurance ). It's still to be seen how the law will work in the near future.

It's not the most up to date source but for a solid idea of exactly what happened and changes that are still coming all the way through 2014 please read this.

I'm willing to take on extra costs so the underprivileged can have access to health care.

Are you? That's very generous. What % of your income are you currently taxed at, and how much additional are you willing to give up?

I would honestly find it extremely hard to believe that anyone who post on this forums life is going to drastically change tax wise because of this bill.

Did you read the link I posted? Do you meet those high end targets that will be making you pay?

The only people who actually see an affect and minor one at that are people who are involved in the high 6 brackets of income. People in that bracket should have an accountant to make sure that their finances are in order regardless.

You people are making it seem like the government it going to peoples homes and telling them gtfo because they have to pay 10 million in taxes by 5 p.m. tomorrow.

You do know that when businesses see tax increases, they pass a share of the burden onto consumers in the form of price hikes..............right?

    Please, please say right.
