Sean May was a far more talented player from all areas on the floor (inside low post, mid high post, outside perimeter, rebounding, passing, etc...). Diogu is just a hustle player who cleans up broken plays and does the dirty work.
Now I'm not saying because May
was more talented that automatically means he would contribute more than Diogu would if given the minutes THIS SEASON, but you have to easily see why management was willing to gamble on a more skilled player.
May knows this is his last chance to get another NBA contract... and he'll definitely have to earn his next one.
Anyhow... from a video of a recent NC Tarheel Alumni game it seems May looks to be in alot better physical shape than last season when he had all that weight from being injured. Here's the clip:
