Default When is the time right to expand?

In a business, when is it the right time to expand? If you do it too late, you lose a lot of potential earnings. Do it too early and you can go bust. How do you know when the right time to expand is?

By expand I mean in general terms, like getting more employees, more stock, spending more money and time on other facets of the business. Essentially putting in a lot more in the hopes to get even more back.

Most smaller businesses expand organically as their needs increase... that's why you want to keep some funds set aside or have an untapped line of credit available

hopefully through research before startup it's written into their plan but they also have to be able to respond to the needs of their market so you want to maintain flexibility over sticking to the plan...
