Default playtetris' new hip hop recommendation thread

this thread will be for new releases that i think people here will dig.

first stop, we go to jay guevara's own detroit and check in with slum village and elzhi.

IMO slum - besides elzhi - are the equivalent of an underground lil wayne. they are all style, flow and presentation. slum has a new album coming out soon, but for the moment they have released an ep to whet our appetite.

    money right (produced by madlib)

cloud 9 feat. marsha from floetry (nice r'n'bish cut)

elzhi - IMO the best technical emcee in the game atm besides pharaohe monch - has also released a leftovers album of joints he left off his first album. production from black milk, jake one and moss amongst others.

    it can be downloaded from

    www.elzhi.com

start by not being a slave to the mass media propaganda machine and work your way up from there.

If you mean Im just one of those people that thinks all of hip hop is a bunch of black guys swearing, you're wrong.

Some artists are good, but I dont really know anything about hip hop so Im seriously looking for artists who dont cuss as much and actually have meaningful(somewhat) and good lyrics.

You might like Be, by Common. He actually raps about things and doesn't curse for the hell of it (he barely does at all).

heh, it was mostly a joke. finding good music can be tricky at first, but i find once you get on the right trail, it pretty much snowballs into a whole slew of really good music on top of it. you look for other artists that have contributed to the one you're listening to, affiliate artists, the entire record label, etc. you basically get started with the help of somebody like tetris who really knows his sh*t, and then work your way from there.

and doesn't curse for the hell of it (he barely does at all).
maybe not in this decade. :)

^^^ Freddie Gibbs is currently the best rapper alive

    I truely believe that...

maybe not really because of his skill, although he has amazing skill, but more for the fact that he is the "REAL DEAL"...

he lives/lived the gangsta ass life that he raps about...and yeah I know other gangsta rappers hustled the streets for real too, but this guy is different, he is is just being real about and doesn't cover himself in diamonds all that BS...
^^^ posted that in another thread recently...

blasian introduced me to him, and alot of his stuff is just great...

infact I think he is the best thing around right now, at least from what I know of, I kinda stopped listening to hip hop years ago, but this guy reminds me of the good old days...
