Default can someone take the time to make.. [WHAT BUZZFEED DOES TO YOUR BRAIN, IMAGES INSIDE]

a buzzfeed page of some sort with a title like "18 lists of nonsense you'll forget tomorrow" or "18 links you can click to waste your time"... something anything like that. i guess that idea, which is SUCH a great idea, has probably already been done. oh well, back to the drawing board.

i was just browsing a facebook page of a friend and i encountered the phenomenon i'm sure we're all familiar with by now. the most shared internet pages right this second, perhaps even more than short youtube videos, are these idiotic lists.

small sample from this chicks page

15 Things We Did At School That Future Students Will Never Understand
37 Cheap And Easy Ways To Make Your Ikea Stuff Look Expensive
The 5 Types Of Friends Everyone Should Have

the last one isn't so bad. but you get the idea.

does anybody else have a problem with this? is it gender specific or at least gender slanted (obv meaning girls are more inclined)? is it making us think it's okay or even preferable to consume information in bite-sized easy to swallow pieces so that we don't get confused or scared at the big wide complicated world? am i exaggerating the extent of this phenomenon? or am i merely overstating its significance?

anybody anybody at all? i'm sure

    It's click bait.

"..you won't BELIEVE what happens next!"
"..may look like your ordinary blahblah, but you'll NEVER guess what it really is"

Buzzfeed is digital crack. It is designed as a quick, mindless article/list that distracts you from important tasks and critical thought. I really despise that site.

I actually don't mind a lot of Buzzfeed lists. It's kind of similar to my enjoyment of fail videos. Often very little quality involved, but entertaining nonetheless.

I reserve my true disdain for Slideshow-style lists that require a person to click and open a new page for every subsequent part of the list (as a means of driving a website's ad revenue for each click).

That said, I don't think there's a super gender slant. Well I mean, maybe. But guys are susceptible to lists just as well. I love NBA's Top Ten plays and I have a hard time resisting when someone like Sports Illustrated puts something together like "Top 10 Dunk Contest Performances of All-Time".

yeah, that's what i really despise about those lists. by the time you've gone through the whole vapid affair, you've been subjected to dozens of banner ads and stuff.

cracked for example has a much better take on this. everything's on one or two pages, and it's actually some useful shit, such as:

2leep is also good for not doing the slideshow stuff, but specialises in blog lists that often later get turned in to the type of lists ridonks is ridonking about.
