What is wrong with the east?
As of today, only 5 teams in the east are above the .500 mark, compared to 10 in the West.

Re: What is wrong with the east?
You have two NY teams that are messes. One team in Philly that needs no explanation at this point. Pistons has had internal struggles and baggage from previous poor decisions. Magic lacked a good coach this season. Pacers lost PG and Lance with no one else to really step it up. Lance hasn't worked out with the Hornets and the Hornets are no longer a surprise defensive team. Celtics lack overall talent. Heat has had injuries. Bucks lost steam after the trade deadline.

That's what happens when players like Anthony Davis get drafted to the west.

If Davis was drafted in the East, he would probably be crowned the next face of the league because he would probably be making deep play off runs every year. The team built around him right now could probably make the ECF yet in the west he isnt even making the playoffs.

Re: What is wrong with the east?
Nothing. The best players are just drafted by the Western teams. Steph Curry, Harden (traded by OKC), LMA, Chris Paul (traded by NO), Blake Griffin, Tim Duncan, etc
The all star disparity is evident.
Plus the bad eastern teams get playoff spots instead of draft picks.

Toronto and Washington both cooled off too.

Re: What is wrong with the east?
The West drafted and signed a bunch of big guys over the years to compete with Shaq. Once Duncan and Dirk are gone things will shift dramatically, however.
Besides that, the West has a bunch of quality teams that are ultimately pretenders which confuses people into thinking that the conferences really matter. Nobody in the West would make it out of the East except San Antonio and also potentially Golden State depending on matchups.
The importance of the conferences is overstated with the lone exception being the quality of the first and second round series... which I don't think is really the main gripe that people bring up when they talk about the disparity. They want to make up this imaginary idea that the collective roster of the entire Western team heading into the Finals has a bunch of black eyes and broken ribs and they're barely able to walk because of how oh so difficult their first and second rounds are. The chances of a champion coming out of the 7th or 8th seed of either conference in any given year is slim to none.
Within 5 years Orlando and Philadelphia will be on the major upswing while San Antonio and Dallas will fade into oblivion and things will balance out.
On a fun side note, the title has been won by a team with it's best player being a big or combination of two players being bigs/making up the best front court in the league every year after 98 with the exception of the 12 and 13 Heat. LeBron is that guy... just like Jordan was.

Well, the West Coast of the United States is FAR superior to the East Coast. We shouldn't be surprised that this translates to Basketball, as well.

Re: What is wrong with the east?
Blame New York. They're suppose to be the big money city in the East.
