Default Ahmad Nivins

I watched him play a bit this year and think that he could develop into an intriguing player who could contribute off the bench. He's mostly projected as a late second rounder, if he even gets drafted.

Thoughts?

39.3 minutes per game? Dang. Sounds like he is projected to be taken in the late 2nd round. If he goes undrafted I would definitely want to give him a shot but I don't think I would use the 45th pick on him, maybe if we get a lower pick from a trade.

He seems like he should at least make someones summer league roster.

Speaking of which, I think the Pistons should give Luke Nevill a shot if he goes undrafted. He is 7'1" and averaged 16.8 ppg, 9 rbg, and 2.7 bpg last year for Utah. Shot 60.7% from the field and 78.6% from the line. They say he isn't athletic at all but I'd give him a shot in the summer league just for his size and stats.

I'd like to see them get another project type center like Samb, just because if it pays off it would be a big payoff. It's highly unlikely a 2nd rounder ever makes the team so we may as well go for need. I would say most guys who are 7' aren't too athletic. The only C who comes to mind who is really athletic is Dwight Howard but he isn't quite 7' either. As long as he's smart with that size he has a chance in the league.

Speaking of Samb, I knew Denver traded him away for a 2nd rounder but I didn't realize LAC released him after only 10 games and he later signed with NYC. But yeah, I would like to see some more projects go on. The only ones that worked out that I can think of are Amir and Bynum.

Nivins has been generating some good buzz of late and might not even be around at 45. He's very raw and learned the game late, so he's a project. But he's got good size, strength and athleticism and he's a worker. There was a guy in Detroit not too long ago like that who did pretty well. Not to compare him to an all-star freak of nature NBA all defensive player of the year, but could be a gamble well worth taking.

Based on his decription I wouldn't mind taking him at 45 (if we don't draft mullens) but it sounds like he will fall and I don't want us to take a player too early. Utah with the 50th pick is the only team I've heard is interested in him at this point.

What about these guys? Not necessarily using a pick, but signing them for the summer league...

Alfred Aboya
Dante Cunningham
Alade Aminu

Mock drafts are like a-holes at this juncture, and I know there are a lot of conflicting views on Chad Ford of ESPN, but for what it's worth - his latest mock draft has Nivins going to Milwaukee at 41.
