Default Could the Hawks trade for Kobe Bryant?

Not theoretically, but realistically.

The Hawks would have to include Josh Smith in a deal, but if Horford plays well, then the Hawks may not want to give Smith a monster extension.

And then the Hawks could put a package together of Smith, Marvin or Sheldon Williams, Ty Lue (expirer), Lorenzen Wright (expirer), Anthony Johnson (expirer), draft picks, and a trade exception.

If the Lakers have no other option and the team stinks, they could end up doing this.

The greater question is: would Kobe choose to go to Atlanta? The answer: possibly, if he wants out of LA bad enuf.

Atlanta would have to send back:
Josh Smith, Al Horford and filler (Speedy/Wright). They may have to include Acie Law as well.

They easily have enough talent to give LA enough in return for Kobe. But it would all be about whether Kobe agrees to go there and agrees to an extension.

Smith or Horford would definitely go the other way along with Marvin Williams and contrat fillers.

Kobe vetos. The Hawks can't even make the playoffs and really lack a compelling true superstar young talent for Kobe to groom the rest of his career around. Portland w/ Roy + Aldridge + Webster there I think he would agree to, Toronto w/Bosh + Ford or Calderon yes, Milwuakee w/Bogut + Redd .... maaaaaaybe ... Atlanta ... no.

I understand he has a no trade clause, but if he could go to Atlanta and play with JJ and Horford, he may want to do that.

He would be playing with a bona fide 20+ scorer and a young, talented big in Horford.

And maybe he could elevate the rest of the young roster.

It depends on what options there are available to him, and whether he really wants out of L.A.

If he came here, he would be the toast of the town.

Now I really don't like Kobe, so I personally wouldn't like the deal.

But it is something that isn't completely out of the question.

don't agree, personally thats too much

This is a case where Atlanta should wait till mid season to revisit this at the trade deadline. Based on what Marvin Williams did in the preason, if he has a breakout, everything changes! And it looked like he's ready for a breakout season like Josh had last yr. Which then makes it possible to keep Horford.
who is the closest thing to a true center they got, IMO. You can sign and trade Josh Smith and include Marvin and whoever else if the Lakers will take that. More than likely they'll demand Joe Johnson though, so me personally their still not getting Horford or Law, and they must choose between Marvin and Josh Smith and they can have anyone else n draft picks. But again you wait and hope Marvin finally breaks out.

They may be better on in the long run trying to keep this team together if they can.

But the issue is by adding Kobe can they compete right now.
I would say in a yr or 2 they'd be a series problem and Kobe would still be in his prime. But maybe not a playoff team threat right away but by the end of the season they'd look really good. They'd be young, hungry and very talented. Also Kobe would be in a big market too.

And the lakers would have a nice foundation to build with
Josh Smith or Marvin with Joe Johnson, Odom, Bynum and whoever else they draft or get for their bench. To even take it a step further they can still trade for Jermaine O'Neal for Bynum, Kwame and Picks and all they need left is a Pt guard and their a beast.

Kobe is the only player in the league that can veto any trade he doesn't like

There's a certain criteria for it that has to do with when you resign with the same team and how long you've been with that team. He's the only one that did it right to be eligible for that clause. So even if the lakers find a deal they like, he can still veto it. Otherwise everyteam would be making offers to the Lakers instead only the 5 teams he listed are truely involved.

Your crazy

you'd take Roy, Aldridge and Webster over Josh Smith, Joe Johnson and Al Horford are you out your mind!

You know why you said that
cuz those teams are all more popular than Atlanta whose going under the radar

just wait, cuz a month or 2 from now it'll be a different story!
