Default Ken Griffey Jr.?

I've been watching a lot of Prime 9 on MLB Network. Interesting show, fun to watch especially since I don't know a whole bunch about baseball in comparison to other sports. They have a pretty big bias it seems to the older players but...

I'm watching these lists and stuff, and in a large number of them this guy shows up:

And to hear people talk about him, it seems pretty wild. The comparisons they make and what people say about him and it begs the question to me, for those around and old enough to comprehend everything (I was just a tot when he was at the top of his game):

Just how good was The Kid?

GOAT if he didn't get hurt. Home run king, one of the best defensive outfielders ever. Amazing arm, had wheels. My favorite player ever.

Sweetest swing I ever saw. One of the best 5 tool players ever. Made it look easy. Was the best player I ever saw before the steroid era. He would have had the home run record if he never got hurt

The only thing I ever saw that was better was Barry Bonds on steroids. 2001-2004 was Ruthian, so I don't really count him.

He was my favorite player. He was amazing and one of the greatest to ever play the game. Too bad injuries caught up with him. I echo what Sarcastic said.

he's fifth all-time on the homerun list and along with Ichiro is the greatest defensive outfielder of the generation, in his prime he was simply the best player in baseball.

amazing thing is the dude rallied back from a suicide attempt when he was 17 to become as great as he was.

easy hall of famer, during his prime he played baseball about as well as anyone ever has.

not much else to say.

Him and Bonds (pre-'roids) were the best of their generation, and better than anyone currently playing. Griffey may have been the best, period. True 5-tool player.

we all felt this way in seattle

but after his lame excuses for not re-signing with the mariners, he became my version of lebron james for cleveland

when he came back, it was to insure his "legacy" and have a jersey to retire once he makes the hall of fame

but to me, he just showed his selfishness all the more

while he gave us some great memories and i respect his various accomplishments, he will never have my baseball love or respect as a person

It's insane that he is still #5 all time in homeruns after all those games he missed.

I will not be able to stand watching baseball until they do something about this salary cap deal.

griffey had the smoothest swing.

he was barry bonds at the plate and on the base paths but a great fielder as well. i wish he never left seattle. they had Griffey, A-rod and Randy Johnson.

That's what a lot of these guys were saying:

"The best player I think I've ever seen." "Without the injuries he'd have been the greatest." "Just as he was being mentioned as the greatest to ever play the game, injuries caught up to him."

That's just bananas to me. I mean for me the Babe, Willie Mays, and Hank Aaron are in a class all their own. So...

What'll it take to get someone past Babe Ruth? Is there anyone in the game today who you see having a shot at best ever?

Have to say that I also think he is the best I ever saw in my lifetime.

I really wish he had never started getting hurt b/c he would easily have become the HR king.

His swing was just

plus he endorsed some pretty kick ass SNES and N64 baseball games.

Are you saying Bonds wasn't a great fielder?? Eight consecutive Gold Glove Awards.
