Re: van Persie just signed for Manchester United
people, this move was a business deal.
Normally Fergie would not go for guys who have already peaked, rather picking the youth off from other clubs and then integrating them.
Man Utd can't compete in the premier league like that anymore, Man City, Chelsea and even Liverpool are opening up their pockets and landing some HUGE talents.
With Man Utd going public on the stock exchange they have to show that they are prepared to produce a winning team every year amidst all the transfers in the EPL or risk of failing to draw investors to pay down their debts (a la Celtics, CLE Indians, Florida Panthers)
Im a ManU fan and personally I think the move was an OK move. Not great. RVP is definitely an elite striker in the world and will be great in the style that Man Utd plays, he'll get so much service on crosses from guys like Nani, Young, Kagawa, especially Valencia. Playing with Rooney will also give him more time on the ball as rooney is both a threat and a great playmaker (although he's a fat ass lol)
Long term is where this deal falters. We failed to land Lucas Moura (I almost shed a tear) who would've been more than a short term fix to our depth, but long term he couldve been the star of the future. RVP is has peaked already IMO. I don't know if he'll have another 12 months as good as he had ending just prior to the Euros.
