I was reading the thread about it on the Miami board and they think he's very underrated, and very, very good.

This is "soft verbal" defined, though, since he's still taking other visits.

Supposedly he dropped out of Parkland and went back home to Chicago so noone really knows what is going on with him.

No clue what his deal is, but we really could've used him next year.

Bob Asmussen of the News-Gazette:

There was talk that Anthony Morris would go to Parkland College, but from what I understand that didn't happen. He is at home, trying to get his academic work in order so he can enroll in January. I don't think there is a doubt that he is coming to Illinois and the school wants him. If he gets to play in the spring, he should be ready to go in 2008. Though it hurts the program not to have him on the field now, it is basically serving as a redshirt for him.

Funny it should come up in the chat they do on their site around the same time it comes up here.

Reggie Ellis, DT from Dunbar HS in Washington DC has commited. Top player in the area.

Not a surprise. I'd have been stunned if he didn't pick Illinois.

I was a little surprised the DE from Dunbar didn't come here (he picked Virginia) but Reggie Ellis is a lot better and we're pretty well set at DE anyway, especially if Luiget makes his soft commit more solid.

In other news, looks like Illinois is about to get Head.....again.

If Head commits, that would leave 1 scholarship for '10. Who would you rather have fill that slot? Johnson, Dority, or McCamey?

Anthony Johnson. Easy. Little McCamey might be as good as his brother and Dority's a player, but Anthony Johnson is a big-time stud. He'll be a Top 25 player.

Wait, would we really only have one more? Hmm...

2007: Cole, Davis, Tisdale, McCamey, Semrau
2008: Simpson (if we add another, I'm guessing it'll be a juco)
2009: Bertrand, Paul, Richardson
2010: Richmond, Head

Unless I'm missing something I think we'd have two left. Anthony Johnson is definitely the first one. The last scholarship would, in my opinion, have to be a big man, whether it's from 2009 and 2010. Paul Bunch, a 6'10" kid from '10, is a name I keep hearing.

2010 might be the best class in Illinois since 1998 (Frank Williams, Quentin Richardson, Corey Maggette, Bobby Simmons, Michael Wright; EIGHT Top 100 kids overall), and Anthony Johnson is the No. 2 player in the state, definitely, right now. A class of Richmond/Johnson/Head, plus, let's say Bunch, would rank among the very best in school history.

That's a top 5, a top 25, and probably two top 100's.

I've been reading that Dority will also be a top 30 player. But I'm with you. I'd want Johnson first and I'm guessing we would be set for guards so getting another big man, Griffey or Bunch, would really give the Illini a bright future.
