i am currently using this for spanish. i am in mexico this summer visiting the in laws and i have to say that it has its weaknesses. i only have levels 1,2,3 but half of it was just review from two years of high school spanish class.

i do understand a lot more than i used to, but its still hard to keep up up with the speed of a native spanish speaker. i have heard from some people that it really did work wonders for them, so i could be an exception here.....

just learning a little bit though, has made coming to mexico much more enjoyable, but if its not a cookie cutter conversation from rosetta stone (which never happens) then i get lost usually.

i do pick up a few words here and there and can the gist of some conversations though.

I've only done the level 1 Japanese, I feel like it is sesame street level Japanese. I know my colors, numbers, and such. A few basic phrases, and verbage, I can kind of deduce what a spoken sentence is about, but as far as speaking a reply. No way.

Rosetta Stone sucks.

If you look hard enough, you can definitely find better resources out there. Try checking some torrent sites.

There's a thread about Rosetta Stone that pops up every once in a while and I always recommend checking out Fluenz for Spanish. Look around at different reviews and it consistently is ranked as good as or better than RS. I tried it for a while and it was really simple and easy to use and learn from.
