Default how much should i save up before moving to California?

Los Angeles is my dream city to live at on the down low or somewhere like Carson or Long Beach.

pretty much any of the more noticable cities besides Oakland "looks crappy and dangerous" and Fresno "looks lame"

I really want to move to there so bad

    How much?

    1. Hit powerball
    2. Rob a bank and get away

Its expensive to live out there from people I know who live/have lived there.

But if thats where you really want to go? Try it.

    I'd recommend $10-15K

Moving expenses (e.g, UHaul, gas, etc.) -- $2-3K
    Rent (e.g., 1st, last/security deposit, etc.) -- $3-4K
    Furniture & appliances -- $3-5K
Miscellaneous living expenses (e.g,. cable, phone, internet, food) -- $2K

Just try to set yourself up with a job first. If you know someone there already, headout and spend some time and have a look around before you commit.

It takes a lot of money to live in California. A good rule of thumb is to always have a minimum of 5000 in the bank.

Why not go to Texas, they seem to be thriving.. You can also get a nice place near the water for a great price

Anyways why Cali? Why not somewhere like Texas, Florida, or Georgia?

thats what i'm saying. Get more bang for your buck if its warm weather and ocean you are after. Plus the convenience factor of not having to deal with insane traffic, pollution, and population.

You can get a cheap room in Long Beach. It won't be nice, but it'll be cheap enough.

And don't listen to these fools about Bang-for-your-buck. There is no place like California. This is coming from a guy who has lived in Hawaii.

California is really beautiful and there are some nice things about it. Every place has its ugly side and beautiful side though. I know people that have moved out there and liked it. I know people that moved out there and hated it. I know people who have lived out there for decades and moved out because they couldn't take the expense and the sacrifices it takes to live there. If you are a young kid with no money and you asked where should I move, the absolute last places i'd say would be NY and LA just because of the $$$$ and inconveniences.

Are there any inexpensive places in Cali scattered aorund?

A few extra hours to hit SF or Diego wouldn't hurt

All depends on how nice of a city you want. You can get a 1x1 for about $900-1100 in the SFV. Or probably 750 in Watts

Palm Springs/Indio/Cathedral City are pretty cheap.

    Same with Fresno & Bakersfield
