Dude, any night of the week in NYC you can find some tech group getting together on Meetup.com. You'll find tons of startups, some with venture captial looking for good engineers. All the other folks who do computer stuff, graphic artists, project managers, ....any of the non heavy tech stuff....might have trouble finding work but skilled coders will have no problems. However, everyone is chased the top folks.
If I was in college, I would give serious thought to saving enough money to buy a cheap car and rent a tiny room within a 2 hour drive of silicon valley. Then if I didn't get hired out of school, go there and just to these meetups until I got hired.
I was looking for a job recently and I heard a lot of people talking about how very soon America will have a million more coding jobs than it can fill. I heard people saying that every child in grade school in American should study coding.
