Default Which team would win? (assume everyone is in their prime)

    PG Curry
    SG Jordan
    SF Durant
    PF Bird
    C Garnett

    Bench: Kobe, Pierce

    PG Magic
    SG Harden
    SF Luka
    PF Lebron
    C Giannis

    Bench: Oscar, Westbrook

So the first group are guys that can seamlessly switch from ball-handling/play-creating roles to the shooter role (and vice versa), while the 2nd group are primarily ball-handlers who remain in that role (centers don't really play either role, but I tried to pick guys that fit closest with these roles)

Which group would be a better team?

2nd group, of course. No debate.

Team A is missing Pippen, so B easily.

How would the 2nd group develop chemistry - they're all elite on-ball, but not off-ball

    There's only 1 ball

Seems that the 1st unit would have more better chemistry, brand of ball and team

This shows the hole in the ball-handler's game vs the combo guys - this is why the combo guys are better - a wider skillset, not just on-ball

This isn't even fair. You gave Jordan's team the way better bench. Oscar Robertson? You can't just throw in a guy from the 60s and 70s. He'd be terrible compared to all these other guys from the modern era. That idiot Westbrook? Kobe and Kawhi are obviously much much much better. Luka also has no business up with these guys right now. Team A gets Durant and Team B gets a second year player? That's fair.

The ring count tells the story

The first group has a lot more rings for that exact reason - they can play with any player type, while ball-dominators don't mix

    Ok just consider the starters

The reality is that 2nd group would suck - 5 ball-dominators on the court at the same time??? That simply wouldn't work

This thread was supposed to show how the ball-dominators are flawed because they lack the skills to play with each other/compliment each other, while the combo guys fit together because they can play on-ball and off

pretty simple really, but oh well, I tried

Like, ball-handlers NEED shooters - that's a weakness - whereas the combo guys can be the shooter themselves and have a teammate handle the rock - they can play off each other and the ball-handler team can't..

we saw it with Wade/Lebron - both guys needed shooters around them, which neither guy provided each other, so they didn't fit well

No fukking shit. Of course you don't want a bunch of ball dominant guys on one team. When you do match ups like this you are supposed to make the teams somewhat stylistically similar . Obviously Team A would play better when they have more multi faceted players. You make a perfect team vs a flawed team and then ask who would win like ithere's some kind of point to all this. That doesn't make those players necessarily better, but obviously they would play better together.

Hahaha... Even in making a fantasy line-up Jordan gets a stacked one.
Kobe playing bench? While Harden is starting on the other team.. pretty well balanced...

Ignore the bench then, or take MJ off and start Kobe

Regardless, a team of combo guys would always beat a team of ball-handlers because the ball-handlers lack the skill to play with each other (no off-ball)

Basically, combo guys > ball-dominators, which is why they win more...

Switch Jordan with Lebron and ask this question again
