Good college starter
Have the lakers caught the loser virus post 2010
After 2010 they have literally got worse and worse.
Champions to
playoffs to
barely making playoffs kobe injured. Worst beating in laker playoff history to
not making playoffs to
nearly bottom of the table.
And we are closing in on kobes career resorting to praying on our rookies.
Are the lakers destined to be the western knicks. I sure hope not

Re: Have the lakers caught the loser virus post 2010
lakers management has lived off kobe as one laker fan said recently and hid a lot of the underlying deficiencies. They've been doing a terrible job of transitioning into the post kobe era but Kobe isn't the best person to necessarily usher in the next step for the Lakers

Lakers win ring in 2002.
Perform relatively poorly the following year (lose to hated Spurs).
Retool with some ring chasers the year after (Malone/Payton), still don't win.
Dump everything for assets.
Wait a couple of seasons.
Trade assets for All star caliber player to put next to current star.
Win new ring 7 years after previous ring.
Now:
Lakers win ring in 2010.
Perform relatively poorly the following year (Dallas sweep).
Retool with some ring chasers shortly after (Nash, Dwert), still don't win.
Dump everything for assets (the tank/1 and 2 year contracts for everyone).
Wait a couple of seasons.
???
We'll see folks. We'll see.

Exactly. Russell or Randle better make the leap soonish. Big shoes to fill.

Re: Have the lakers caught the loser virus post 2010
They seem to have lost some of that ability to score that big free agent like they always could in the past.
In today's world, players can make big money (endorsements) anywhere; they dont have to play in a big market like LA. That takes away some of the cache of playing there.

I'm not sure they're superstar level players. Good ones for sure but not someone like Kobe (or even close to it) that you build a dynasty around.

Re: Have the lakers caught the loser virus post 2010
From what I can remember, the only asset the Lakers have gained since 2010 has been the Rockets' 2015 1st Rounder.
That's barely an asset considering who they drafted.

"Asset" might not have been the best term. What asset did they get in the 2005-2008 era? Bynum, Crittendon, and Kwame's expiring contract.
Now we have Kobe's expiring contract, Russell, and Randle. Much better than the above in my opinion.

It might even be a negative since living in LA is so expensive. Can't imagine the housing expense. Meanwhile, Parker builds a HUGE house with wine cellar in San Antonio for relative peanuts (compared to LA housing) while paying no state tax.

Re: Have the lakers caught the loser virus post 2010
My major qualm with Laker's management has been their inability to sign B level players to round out a team. They typically sign scrubs or bench players and give them bigger roles than any other team would and just relied on Kobe and Pau to keep them at a championship level
However, Mitch and company are fantastic at going after big names via trades (not so much in free agency though. because who was our last big name FA pick up? Artest....?), but other than that, their front office is lacking when it comes to creating a "complete" team
