Default Laker fans, imagine being in this position.. Gasol or Bynum

Ok, so here's the deal.

We have to give either Bynum or Gasol away. Right now. For whatever the reason. We simply have to do it. No if's, no but's, one has to be gone this second.

Now obviously, we've done well in the playoffs and Gasol is healthy, Bynum is not. But, you also have to look at the big picture. Bynum should be much more important in the future than Gasol. However, he can't do anything this year.

What do you do? Give Gasol away and practically give the year away as well but you know the future will rock with Bynum. Or do you give Bynum away because the Lakers rock now with Gasol and with them being this good, it shouldn't be all that hard to sign a good center who will want to play for the Lakers from next year on.

So simple decision. What do you do? I'm very thorn on this. On one hand, Bynum will be so badass in the future but giving up this year? When we perhaps can sign someone good with the MLE? Hmm. What do you do?

Others can chime in too.

You keep Gasol.

Gasol is still pretty young, and I don't think Bynum will be as good as Gasol in the end.

Well, Lakers are running on all cylinders now, so I would have to stay w/ Gasol. No one knows how Bynum will turn out or even if his injury will 100% heal. If it aint broke...

Do you all think Gasol will improve his game? Bynum still has tremendous upside as he continues to improve...

So, I am curious if you all think Gasol has topped out yet?

p.s. I am very happy we get to keep both for now!

Yea but Gasol would be a totally different player if he is moved to the PF position.

Gasol is a PF who is surviving and doing his best as a Center. But is a Pf since he was a child, he is a natural Pf, and he will play his best as PF with Bynum.

Hope Odom can stay and play SF.

I think this is best Gasol will be. He has been like this for the past few seasons, I dont expect him to vastly improve much. Still a great player if he remains at this level.

Yes I am also very happy we have both of them. It will be very interesting how they share the paint when Bynum returns

this is easy, you keep bynum.

Bynum doesn't even create for himself consistently yet and he's already averaging 13 ppg on the season and his rebounding and defense are >>>>>> Pau's rebounding and defense.

Pau has hit the ceiling and won't do anymore than he is.

Bynum > Gasol

I dont think its that easy bc you dont know if we would be where we are at now w/ bynum. We are going to the WCF now. You dont know how it would have panned out if Bynum didnt go down and we never got Gasol. Bynum has a bigger potential, but we have won w/o him so I dont think its that easy

That was kinda what I was trying to solicit from folks... how good do you think he could be at his "natural" position or do you feel that he is at the maximum capabilites?

I think defensively, it will help him if he were in his natural position. He would probably fare batter against the smaller of the bigs. Offensively, what we see is what we are going to get but his defensive contributions would improve not defending the biggest guy out there

Ok, obviously we get to keep both (YAY US ) however imma play along

We all believe that Bynum will be a beast in the league. He was improving greatly over this past off season and well into the regular season; however, he got hurt. Now he is going to be spending much of the off season rehabbing his knee and thus trying to get back to his former self, taking time away from further improvement.

Gasol has been the savior of the year. Steal of the century! Even with a healthy Bynum I don't think the Lakers had the team to get to the WCF until the Gasol trade was made, at least not yet! Gasol has great touch, high IQ, unbelievable passing ability, and great chemistry with the team in so little time. Gasol is also still relatively young.

So, if it had to be done this second. I would have to keep Gasol. Keep the season alive, go for the ring! Have potential to come back again next year and the year after. Hope Mitch can pull something off down the road to bring in another big or perhaps manage to get some lottery picks through the draft and get a decent replacement.
