Default Are sports gamblers actual sports fans?

I find them annoying to watch sports with. Not interested in the games themselves and just concerned with the score.

Might as well just go to the casino and play pai gow. Not interested in how you parlayed at halftime

    Not to me they're not.

I'm not saying I wouldn't bet on a game. I just can't remember the last time I did.

I'll bet on a game I have no invested interest to make it exciting. These sports gamblers though act like they know the games they're watching but couldn't tell you 5 people on each team.

what gamblers are you talking about tho?

cuz any gambler worth his salt will know what a player scored last year against that same opponent in the same weather condition and court advantage. wind conditions, etc. that wouldn't make them more interested in the game of course for competitive sakes, but they know about the game and players.

Maybe the professional ones. Most I know are casual fans.

in that case, those are 100% degenerates. i went through a phase, and no, i was not a fan of all those teams. hell, i bet 1k on a cot damn team from a sport i had the slightest clue of. in that sense, you are correct. but nowadays, we have tech that provides all types of analytics. again, there is a reason the average gambler is referred to as a degenerate.

I’ve been gambling pretty much strictly on sports (racing of any kind is a suckers game, unless you’ve really invested a huge amount of time on research...and even so..sketchy) for quite a few years now and turn a small profit. I still keep a full time job, so I wouldn’t say I’m anywhere near a ‘professional’. That being said, a proper gambler will know the sport they’re betting on inside and out.. while that doesn’t necessarily make them a fan, they’ll probably know more about the sport than the average ‘fan’ does.

A pro punter doesn’t get too up or too down over wins and losses either, that’s for the spuds that have put the last $200 of their pay cheque on something they know nothing about, and blindly hope.

I love the nba and know heaps about it (fan), but it’s consistently one of the hardest sports to make money off...American sports in general are just a different beast..especially the regular seasons.

I've been gambling for 25 years, and am generally considered more knowledgeable then most people I know. I generally consider myself a matchup guy. Team standings in strengths vs. weaknesses. But rarely will you see me get emotional over a game. I had the Rams last night, and it's not like I'll defend that no call.

I also have a firm rule of never betting on games my teams are involved in. The Bears, Celtics, Yankees, and Syracuse Men's Basketball.
