Jimmy Butler may be on his way out of Minnesota, but his fit with the Utah Jazz would be less than ideal.
Not sure there is a better fit. A two way player that would share go to guy with Mitchell. A vet. Not a great shooter. What's not to like other than possibly paying him into his mid 30's?
Without question, the Utah Jazz have one of the most impressive young cores in the NBA. They may not be Steph and KD, but Rudy Gobert, Donovan Mitchell and Coach Quin Snyder are about as good as it gets for the mere mortals of the Association. That said, the team could be flush with cash over the next two offseasons and will undoubtedly seek to bridge the gap with a big-time acquisition, if there’s one to be made.
Plenty of doubt. I can see them paying Favors and Rubio and remaining mediocre before I see tham signing a big star
Reports have indicated that the Jazz aren’t on the shortlist of teams Butler would consider signing an extension with. It would seem that the Brooklyn Nets, New York Knicks and LA Clippers are the only squads with a firm chance of keeping him long-term.
sounds like he would consider other teams
He’s also had multiple run-ins with Jazz point-man Ricky Rubio. Butler forbade the former Timberwolves guard from entering “his” locker room to visit with old friends early last season and went after him on Twitter in March. Speaking of, Rubio tweeted this as a likely response to the Butler news on Wednesday —
Than you send Ricky away. Simple solution. Everyone but Mitchell and Gobert should be available.
Jazz fans, the time will soon come when the Jazz can explore their options and consider roster upgrades. But now is not that time and Butler is not that guy, talented though he may be.
Looking at the trade machine the Jazz could make a better run in December when Favors, Exum and Neto could be traded. Add Phoenix to the deal to take Rubio.
Favors would be a great fit offensively next to Towns and could help him defensively though not the rim protector that would be ideal. Burks could be the guy Minny hoped Crawford would be. Exum is young. Maybe someone would take him? Neto is good, young and cheap. Who wouldn't want him? Thibs would love Thabo. Ideally you keep Bradley or Udoh. Works to include both. With Patton out again Bradley would be a good pick-up for them. Udoh might help them more now and Thibs would love him. Could even play him with Towns maybe.
Tony Jones: Among tidbits from OTA’s, hearing Thabo Sefolosha looks really good….has returned to complete health from the MCL that caused him to miss the second half of the season – via Twitter Tjonesonthenba
His minutes will increase during the 2018-19 season, as he may have entrenched himself into the rotation over Sefolosha. He’s one of Utah’s better perimeter defenders, and at 6’6″ he’s capable of guarding every position on the court except center.
or he might be platooning with him!
Over the summer, he’s been working with Jazz assistant Lamar Skeeter, improving his ball-handling skills to become more of a threat off the dribble. He’s also worked to improve his shooting this summer. He shot 35 percent from beyond the arc last season. If he can improve his 3-point percentage to 40 percent, that — along with his defensive capabilities — will make him a nice asset off the bench for Utah this season.
Hopefully it will spell the end of Ricky in Utah
The lone weakness in Mitchell’s game is his 3-point shooting. Though his 34 percent from beyond the arc is far from embarrassing, it must improve for the Jazz to be able to compete with Houston and Golden State.
It's not his lone weakness and I'm not worried about. Has great form unlike Ricky and Dante
