Hell no. Odds are they just charged you about 20 times what they should have, they're not getting any extra money

You don't tip mechanics.

But I have gone and bought the shop a couple six packs or brought them a box of donuts the next morning when:

The guy stayed late to get my stuff done.
The owner of the shop didn't charge me for the work or did a whole bunch of stuff extra without charging me.

yeah i think its clear the consensus is most dont tip their mechanic. Just got charged 5 hrs labor (at 80/hr) to change a couple sensors. Hell nah he didnt get a tip

they usually charge $50/hr or more, if they aren't getting paid enough then thats the owners fault

I think a lot of people that go to mechanics would be surprised at how easy a lot of jobs are on their cars. I have never gone to mechanic and have put in transmissions, clutches, gaskets, and even done some welding on my cars and am far from being a "car guy." Call a friend who is somewhat knowledgeable in handy work and print out instructions on the internet
