Default Toronto FC Off Season Thread

Well, there are about 4 months for the next TFC game, so why not an off-season thread for Toronto's soccer team?

Let's start!!

TFC is paired against LA Galaxy in the CONCACAF Champions League quarter-final series in early March yesterday.

The unpredictable factor of this is that both teams' roster may change drastically especially the Galaxy, which David Beckham's contract is running out at the end of this year and Landon Donovan might consider trying his luck in Europe for the final time. If they both come back, the Galaxy will be a very tough team to beat. TFC may also lose Joao Plata and Richard Eckersley due to there loan status, but key players like Frings, Koevermans and De Guzman will likely be back.

Another factor is TFC's venue in the first game. It is early March, which is usually very cold around here. An outdoor stadium like BMO Field can be one strong ice fortress for warm-weather teams like Galaxy but it can only hold 25,000 attendances. Another option is SkyDome aka Rogers Centre, which can hold as many as 50,000 and is warm inside, but it uses an artificial turf instead of real grass and doesn't give any real advantage for either teams.
Seeing how Montreal Impact CCL game inside Olympic Stadium going really well 2 years ago, Rogers Centre might be TFC's final choice.

Just a quick update:

TFC traded its 2nd round draft pick to FC Dallas for Jeremy Hall. Hall was the 11th overall pick in 2008 SuperDraft and on the starting roster regularly in NYRB for 3 seasons but was then traded to Timbers and FCD last year and got little play time since.

Normal TFC move right here since they prefer to trade their picks for something else despite they actually did very well drafting.

TFC just hired Thomas Rongen as the new director of TFC soccer academy.

Rongen is a former USA U-20 coach, MLS Coach of the Year in 1996 for Tampa Bay Mutiny, and won the MLS Cup in 1999 with DC United. He is recently the American Samoa coach that made the news by helping them win a FIFA-sanctioned international match for the first time after 30 consecutive losses in 17 years.

Sounds great to me.

Reds also signed Richard Eckersley off a loan deal from Burnley to be here permanently. So, TFC got two top performers from last season back. They also signed a Ecuadoran defender Giovanni Caceido.

This is a very optimistic off-season in a long while.

The CCL match against LA Galaxy at SkyDome this March should be a great one for you. Tickets are cheap enough for casuals, 12 bucks or something at 500 level, and you will likely see Beckham, Frings, and Donovan play.
