Default Jerry West

Just read that Jerry West announced that he is stepping down from his position with the Memphis Grizzlies. Reading this just makes me shake my head even more. The best offseason acquisition we could have made was to throw a ton of money and power at Jerry West and say here rebuild this team.

This is why you should not make in season contract moves. Instead of picking up one of the best Gm's/executives in the league, we get stuck with an incompetent arrogant Zeke. Brilliant move Dolan

I think he is done with basketball. Colangelo is the best GM in basketball hands down. Jerry West for all the hall of famers he has had on his teams, I still won't give him the nod. He did nothing for the Griz worth mentioning. His move to put a defensive stopper in Shane on a team that prides in defense, lost credibility with me. He is bailing out because he is no longer able to build a winner.

James Dolan already said...'Only if Isiah wants to.' I doubt Isiah will want someone to help him.

The Griz are in great shape. They did win 50 last year in the WEST. They have a good shot at Durant/Oden. That team will be very good next year if they get Oden.

Jerry West assembled the Lakers of the 80s, and the Lakers of the 2000s. Two of the greatest teams in the history of the NBA. He took the Grizzlies who had nothing and turned them into a playoff team (in that sense he is like Colangelo, but he has a better track record and has more experience). The reason he's not doing good right now is because his coach left, the owner hasn't given him any support, thus players are leaving the team. There is a completely different team than there was 2 years ago. That team had Jason Willams, James Posey, Shane Battier, and Pau Gasol (he's still on the team, but was injury prone for a lot of the season). This team doesn't have a future unless the get Oden and hire a good gm. Even then, I don't see this team going to the playoffs in the next 3 years...

Yeah I heard that too and I think we all know that Thomas is way too arrogant and power hungry to ever let someone come in and take some power and influence from him....especially someone who is way more respected than him.

West did a very good job with the Grizzlies. He basically completely revamped an awful franchise. The last 3 years before this one the Grizzlies had won at least 45 games and had made the playoffs in each year in the much more competitive West, although admittedly not doing well in the playoffs.

This year was bad, but there is alot of background stuff going on with the Grizzlies regarding the owner and selling the franchise, which I think may have hampered West a little. But with a chance and getting Oden is there any doubt that West would have rebuilt that franchise in a year or two?

I wish the Knicks had him on their side.
