Default Does such a computer program exist?

As a college student, I really need to get some work done on my computer and I don't have enough self-discipline to not log onto some of my favorite sites and keep them up in my tabs and then I'll go off on them for God knows how long. It happens every week.

I'm looking for a program that maybe I could type in certain sites and select times that I want my web browser not to let me on with them. I.e. Facebook or youtube from 8-10 Monday-Friday.

So I guess it's like a parental lock for myself.

Anyone?

I know there's other Mac apps dedicated to this, but this is the only one I can think of at the moment.

I could probably make it for you, if the price was right.

Take a look at the links on this awesome blog (Zenhabits). This blog is all about simplifying ones life and achieving personal goals etc etc.

Great Software (windows and mac)
http://focusmanifesto.com/tools-for-...g-distraction/

I think you would be most interested in the links found in the
--> Browser Plugins/Extensions <---
section of the link I posted.

Hopefully this helps you :)

I've tried lots of these timer programs. I even had my computer set to shut off at a particular time each night regardless of what I was doing. I thought this would be helpful, but after about a year I started to realize that it is far more important to develop self-control without these tools...at least in my experience.

It takes longer to condition yourself to only checking your favourite sites at certain times, but I think its a far more beneficial skill.

But what do I know? Maybe the tools in the link I posted are just what you need!

Let me know how they work out for you.

Some forums allow self-ban by requesting the mod to temporarily ban you for certain amount of time. It sounds ridiculous to me but lots of people do it.

I know there is a google chrome extension that has a feature like that, and you can set your own time limit on all those not allowed sites.
It's called Stay Focused. It even has a nuclear option!

But the problem is that won't help much, as you can easily cheat by using a different browser. But you can try that!

I have that extension. I think it's called "Lock-it" or something. You type in a list of websites you don't want to access and then a message you want to pop up when you try to. For me I put ISH on there with the message "Keep productive" so I could finish my damn paper.

If you're a college student and need a program to make you not visit sites, you have a problem.

Get your priorities straight.

You act as if the computer owns every second of my life. Procrastinating is such an uncommon thing, isn't it?

Burn in hell, Scientist.

Doesnt everyone go through with same thing? Ive only met very few students who are truly dedicated and focused in accomplishing their tasks. You are fine. You'll cram your way in to college just like everyone else.
