Russell Westbrook stat padding for Triple-Double....Coach Upset
http://sportsillustrated.cnn.com/bas...#ixzz19ktjsAbt
Westbrook finished with 23 points, 10 rebounds and 10 assists - the last coming when he rushed the ball up to Serge Ibaka for a dunk with 6.9 seconds left instead of running out the clock.
"You don't do that. The game is over with," Atlanta coach Larry Drew said. "The game is over with. You've got the ball, you run the clock out. Just that plain and simple."
"When you've got the game won, you run the clock out," Thunder coach Scott Brooks said. "Russell knows how I feel about situations like that, and it was a mistake, but I'm not going to let a mistake at the end of the game ruin what we've done tonight. I thought the game was as well as we've played both ends of the floor against one of the best teams in basketball."

I don't get that. Yeah sure it's stat padding but how can the coach of the opposing team whine about a guy scoring on him. Should they also stop when they've got double digit leads? Maybe start the game over when it looks like it's going to be a blowout?

Exactly. There is this thing called sportmanship. Whether they get paid to play the game or not. As every single NBA player if they should shoot with 5 seconds left if the game is over and (IMO) 90% of them (past and present) players will say no.

Yeah i get that, but how can the coach of the other team whine about that?
either play until the end or just give it up but don't whine. Next step is saying: "they were already up 20 points and still kept scoring" That's kinda the point of the game.

They have to shoot because of the shot clock, but if it's under 5 seconds and you have the game in hand, it's not cool to whore for individual stats.
It's not whining.
You don't run up the score, and you don't do what Westbrook did. That's not about being competitive, it was about him getting that last assists when he was supposed to dribble out the clock.

Re: Russell Westbrook stat padding for Triple-Double....Coach Upset
I saw the end... it was def stat padding because Westbrook was gonna dribble the ball out. But I suppose someone from the bench said you need 1 more assist for a trip double. His teammates wanted him to get it... I imagine he did too. He'll learn from this... as long as Scott Brooks tears into him about it.
