Default Hollinger Pre-Season Predictions

http://insider.espn.go.com/nba/train...Preview 0708#

Not sure anyone other than Insiders can see it but just to let y'all know, he was super high on our starting five, saying they can hang with anybody. He predicts 8th in the East and 4th in the Southeast with a record of 40-42. However, you have to question him b/c he has ATL as 3rd and Washington as 5th in the division...

He's got us 8th seed but 4th in the Southeast? I'd love to see that breakdown!

Hollinger was one of the proponents of the JRich trade and usually shows us decent love...unlike his counterpoint Stein.

Edit:

After seeing the whole thing Hollinger is going with a lot of others on the JRich trade and saying it's still up in the air so far as it being a good move.

Eh. I'll disagree (to me it's a no brainer), but the future will answer that question.

Hollinger absolutely loves Crash tho.

THB, what's the story with Washington?

I'm having a seriously hard time resolving these overall rankings. WAS 13th, Orlando THIRD??? Toronto & NJ missing the playoffs?

He puts a lot of info in those things so I dont really want to write it all out but...

He says a 5 game improvement isnt that crazy for the Magic b/c of Lewis and b/c they are so young.

His argument with Washington is that the big 3 there won't improve. Arenas is coming off surgery, Jamison is old, and Butler had a career year last year and he is gettin up in age. He also says none of the role players are in posistion to step up. Oh, and he doenst think they can play defense at all.

He says NJ is just an average team (around league avg in offense and defense stats last year) and even with the 3 stars, none of the 3 were in the top 20 PER. Also, they arent getting any help from players outside the big names (talked a lot about low PERs). And he says they have no defense either.

With the Raptors, he pretty much thinks everyone on their team over-achieved last year and means they will decline this year; particurally the point guards.

Atlanta, he says, that they were plagued with injuries last year and their best players never got a chance to play together. He is high on Joe Johnson. He is also high on their draft class. Also, they are so young, he expects all of their players to improve this year.

Atlanta will not make the playoffs nor will they come close. I never expect New Jersey to make the playoffs because it seems like every year they get hot near the end of the season and sneak in.

For the Bobcats, he was very impressed by the fact that we were 26-28 over the last 54 games and 22-17 in those games that Okafor actually played in. He said Felton and Ammo were forced to do too much last year to create offense and both will scale back their shots signifcantly this year. Also, Carroll and Ammo hurt our defense significantly and both will see far fewer minutes this season with JRich in town and Herrmann stepping up. He also likes that all of our key players are 27 or younger, minus Fabio.

Thanks THB.

I think he's reaching on Washington, can see his point on NJ and think he's going a little far with both Toronto and Atlanta (Toronto might drop back but not that far...reverse with Atlanta).

I think Atlanta is just as good of a team as Charlotte is this season. Atlanta actually has depth in the front court which we desperately lack. Only problem with Atlanta is at the PG spot with rookie Acie Law starting. I still believe we will have a better season, but as far as them missing the playoffs by a long shot I believe especially playing in the Eastern Conference anything can happen.

Atlanta may have depth, but they don't have talent. If you measure depth by talent level then Charlotte is actually way ahead of them. Sure we have Harrington and May out but we have Okafor, Herrmann, Hollins, Davidson and Brezec while Atlanta has Pachulia, Shelden and Marvin Williams, and...um...whoever else. I'd take Charlotte's front court over Atlanta's any day.

Hollinger apparently thinks May was worth 6 wins b/c since his surgery was announced, he now says we will go 34-48.

Hollinger's a moron. Depending on who we sign and what our opening day roster will be, his predictions could put us anywhere from 30-52 to 50-32.

Most of these columnists are morons. They don't want the Cats to succeed because then they'd have to find some other team to bash.

After having given this some deep thought I now think that it's more realistic to expect the Cats to go 40-42 rather than my previous insistence that the guys will win 50 games this year. (But deep in my heart I won't give this up!!).

I know he's high on May and not so much on JRich...but since May NEVER played I have to think JRich will ultimately add to our win total.

It all depends on Mek. If he gives us 80 games the sky's the limit.

Mek won't play 80 games this year. It's just not feasible. 70-75 is more realistic because everyone has to sit out at least a few games to rest during the year.
