MVP stands for

Most Valuable Player

Not

Most Outstanding Player

Yes, if the reward was for the most outstanding player it should have gone to a team USA player.

But it was for the most valuable player for their team. Team USA was assembled with superstars. Even if you removed a few of their superstars they would have still easily won.

Argentina may not have qualified for the Olympics without Scola.

i understand his value to his team but again, you are using teh idea that his teammates are not that good in scolas favor - rarely does that ever happen in other sports.

try to look at it this way,

does team USA get to the medal round without Carmelo?

does Argentina get to the medal round without Scola?

there's your MVP Winner...

They didn't leave their starters in there til the very end to "leave on a good note" in a 30+pt blowout, not their fault that their 3rd unit is faaar better than other teams. And for the most part neither did the losing teams. It was OVA and he should've been out.

agan i understand he played well and his teammates suck. however, like ive said before haivng bad teammates shouldnt be used in his favor (what more could melo do to prove his value?) nor has the MVP always been determed by the player who is needed the most on his team. maybe thats how FIBA always does it, but thats not how other sports have in the past.
