Default Imagine working a job for 20 years

and every day of that job someone wants you killed. That is what its like being a police officer. Now this is not an excuse for the bad police behavior however it is not shocking why its happening. Which brings up my question. Why are more officers not brought under psychological evaluation more frequently or at all? Obviously it differs person to person but these types of career fields should have a shorter expiration date for the personnel in them.

DOT disallows drivers from driving a certain amount of hours per day, but apparently police officers are allowed to work long shifts in excess of 10 hours.

that's why it's best to be a undercover cop

take drugs all day, have immunity in all criminal activity and then snitch on everybody you gain relationships with

Police work is extremely boring most of the time. And they get to go home and have a normal life with great support from their colleagues so certainly the psychological factor is rather small. I imagine gamers or coders who spent long hours by themselves have more need for psychological evaluation.

no, cops dont encounter people who want to kill them everyday. most cops work 20 years without someone even shooting at them.

An electricity line installer is a far more dangerous job.

I deeply respect law enforcement officers; there is no doubt that they have stressful jobs and can find themselves in extremely dangerous situations. However, they are not under the constant threat of death that you've painted. For instance, most police officers never fire their weapon in the line of duty.

I do agree that officers should be subject to more frequent psychological evaluations, especially individuals that were prior members of the armed forces and more likely to be carrying baggage from their time deployed. These are individuals on the streets with loaded weapons who wield an amazing amount of authority. It's in everyone's best interest to make sure they are well.

Rank Occupation Fatal injuries per 100,000 workers Total deaths
1 Logging workers 135.9 91
2 Fishers and related fishing workers 86 24
3 Aircraft pilots and flight engineers 55.5 75
4 Roofers 48.6 101
5 Trash and recycling collectors 34.1 31
6 Iron and steel wokers 25.1 16
7 Truck and sales drivers 24.7 918
8 Farmers, ranchers, and other agricultural managers 23.1 260
9 First-line supervisors of construction trades and extraction workers 18 134
10 Grounds maintenance workers 17.4 217

Trash collectors and maintenence workers jobs are MUCH more dangerous than that of a cops?

Only 50 police officers died in the line of duty in 2016 and no, all those weren't even homicides.
