Default Nuggets weekly news and notes

·Passing of the Torch: After only eight games this season, Nuggets forward Carmelo Anthony has already found himself among the Nuggets all-time greats in the record books. With his 34-point performance vs. Toronto on 11/18, Anthony tied Alex English’s franchise record of six-consecutive 30+ point scoring games. By doing so, Melo passed the likes of David Thompson, Kiki Vandeweghe and Michael Adams, who had each scored 30 points in five-straight games. Anthony will be looking to break English’s record with his seventh 30+ performance in a row as the Nuggets host Chicago on 11/21.
·Leaving the League In The Rearview: Thanks to his recent string of 30-point scoring nights, Nuggets forward Carmelo Anthony now sits atop the NBA rankings with a league leading 31.0 ppg scoring average. Although there is still 70-plus games remaining in the season, Anthony is on pace to accomplish what no other Denver Nugget has done since the franchise joined the NBA in 1976 – average at least 30.0 points per game for an entire season. The closest any Nugget has ever come was the great Alex English in 1985-86 with his average of 29.8 ppg. In addition to reaching the 30-point plateau, Melo is looking to join English as the only Nuggets players to have led the NBA in scoring. English led the league in 1982-83 with an average of 28.4 ppg. There is still a long way to go, but there is no question that it will be fun to watch history in the making.

Injury Report

OUT: Kenyon Martin had successful surgery on his right knee on 11/15. He will miss the remainder of the season. QUESTIONABLE: Julius Hodge has been inactive for all eight games so far this season due to a left foot infection. His foot continues to heel nicely … Nenę has been inactive for the last three games due to a right knee contusion and is questionable for tonight’s game. He has missed the last three and a half games. He is listed as day-to-day. PROBABLE: Andre Miller suffered a sprained right ankle during the fourth quarter vs. Toronto on 11/18.
