There is a faction within the Nets' organization that thought the right thing to do at the trade deadline was break up the team and start the rebuilding process for the move to Brooklyn. Thorn admitted last week that even on the afternoon of February's trading deadline, he phoned the Lakers one last time to make sure they would not add young center prospect Andrew Bynum to the package for Kidd, 34 years old with a balky knee.

I think it means Kidd may be available again if the Lakers are willing to give up Bynum.

By trade dead line if we were to deal, what would have been the deal?

Bynum Brown Cook Parker or Farmar, and maybe our pick? For Kidd and a Filler?

I can't remember exactly who it would have involved but this year Kidd is making more than Kobe, so to make any trade work it probably would have had to involve Odom and a couple others. I think I remember LA saying they would give up Farmar in that trade but they weren't willing to part with Bynum.

Look, VC will dictate the direction of that team. If he decides to play elsewhere, then mgmt has no choice but to trade Kidd and rebuild with RJeff, Williams, & Krstic. If they want to keep VC and he decides to stay, then they have to keep Kidd and try for the championship. Personally, I think they should try to keep it together. If everyone is healthy next year (Krstic), coupled with the growth of their youngins and Mikki Moore...they have a good shot at winning the East. Hell, give Magloire the MLE and they have a VERY nice starting lineup:
Kidd
VC
RJeff
Krstic
Magloire

and a solid bench.

I agree, if that team was healthy they wouldn't be down 2-0 to Cleveland. But I don't think that team can hold on to both VC and Kidd. It's too much money for one team. Also in a couple years I believe Kidd's contract is up. So they would be better off trading him now and getting rid of that salary so when they make the move they will have either have cap space to sign a big time free agent to create some hype or have a couple of up and coming young guys with a couple years experience that are ready to help carry the load. NJ isn't going to get past Detroit or probably Chicago with the team they have. You know NY is eventually going to make a move that works. The money is there to put together a winner. I also think that NJ doesn't necessarily need Kidd. Although he's been great this season they also have Williams who they have been very happy with and he makes about 17 million less. So they could use that money to get some extra help down low and although they wouldn't be quite as good at the PG spot they would still be solid and improve down low as well. Kidd's one of the pieces teams are probably most interested in they have to offer. I think they would be smart to trade him. Not because he doesn't fit in there or play well but because they are deep in that spot and could make their team better in other places.

One of the very rare times I totaly agree with you.

That team would look solid for the East.

Crazy thought, I wonder if there was any chance Carter would join Kobe in LA for the MLE. Kobe at PG and Carter at SG. I always wanted to see Carter in the Purple and Gold. A! just a thought.

You would think Carter would try and go for a ring and sign with a team for a lot less.

I don't think VC is the kind of player we need for this team. We need to focus on a PG and true PF.
