Default Bobcats-Hawks Observations

Bobcats-Hawks Observations

No player wants to be called "soft," but the Bobcats have the opposite problem: Some players don't acknowledge when they're really hurt.

Primoz Brezec and Raymond Felton kept trying to play through injuries last season that grew worse from a lack of attention. More recently, Sean May ignored soreness in his right knee, practiced on a day when he should have sat, and lost at least two games to the injury.

"Probably if he hadn't practiced, he wouldn't be out," coach-general manager Bernie Bickerstaff said at shootaround Friday.

"The intentions are good; it's admirable in a way to show that toughness. But if you have a real injury, you've got to be realistic about it."

So when Felton complained of new soreness in his left ankle, Bickerstaff told trainer Joe Sharpe to shut down Felton as long as it takes to make him well.

Bickerstaff confirmed to the Observer that he talked to the Los Angeles Clippers about Corey Maggette's availability, but there didn't seem to be a match.

Bickerstaff asked if the Clippers were interested in the first-round pick the Toronto Raptors owe the Bobcats.

The Clippers indicated they'd also want another small forward, and that seemed like too high a price.

Maggette would be a nice addition, but obviously it looks like we aren't going to get him.
