That was my same reaction. It looks like it was an overtime contest. I scanned very quickly, but it appears as if he shot 2-4 in OT, which would have made him 15-43 in regulation.

If you look the boxscore you will able to see that Shaq didn't play that game. Kobe find himself with a scrub supporting cast in an off night shooting.
And back then defenses were tighter.

That Stack game was in overtime as well. It looks like he was 0-4 in OT, so 7-30 in regulation.

That was an awful Pistons team. Stack had free range to do whatever he pleased, so he opted to average 30 a night on 40% shooting. That's the same year he dropped 57 on Chicago (on 21-36 shooting). Then again, he also had 46 against the Lakers that year on 13-30 shooting.

The following year he cut back for the sake of the team. That, combined with a slight squad overall, led to a division title.
