If that's true, then the bartender is a jerk.

Do you really think a bad server gets the same amount on tips as a good one?

The $ sign comes before not after. Where did this annoying phenomenon of typing "487$" come from? Jesus

Anyway I knew this would turn out to be the whole story. Average joes always feel obligated into your finances because you make insanely more money than them. I wouldn't be surprised if that clown server has worked there long enough to feel entitled to it. Like he can't comprehend him crying over the tip being idiotic because he's so used to getting his way. But hey he will make up for it when this $1.78 bottle of water costs you $75 and you get left a tip of $25. Because you know you deserved it given the person who purchased it has a lot of money.

If not, then I suppose you are an indecent human being and a cheap-ass.

Those people aren't working for tips

And most people "rely on something optional." Most employees could be fired relatively easily and rely on their bosses not to do so, and rely on customers to voluntarily buy the products/services they produce so that their company doesn't go out of business. Even the government has to rely on its citizens to produce enough wealth to tax.

The majority of people's livelihoods regon the free choices of others. There's not much unique about servers in that regard.

I come from a country where tipping is not expected and I can assure you that good servers earn a lot of money through tipping.

My ex roommate works as a bartender in a busy nightclub. He earns minimum wage (8.75/h), but gets extra 150-200 from tips on a 10 hours shift on weekends.
I'd also say that tipping in central Europe is not uncommon and I think the majority of the people I know tip, unless the service was bad.

So because they don't have an entitlement, they shouldn't be tipped?

Why do we need to be sympathetic towards your crappy job choices?

So you're a subcontractor. When I was a subcontractor I didn't get tips. Didn't get paid hourly either. So what are you crying about again?

Yeah you're trying to say that it's ok that you stiff your servers because you don't tip cashiers either, but I'M the one grasping at straws...

If I spend a thousand at a restaurant, I might give my server a $20 tip

That's more than they deserve tbh

what they 'deserve' should really be left to the person who HIRED them and continues to EMPLOY them.

of course, the servers prefer it this way as they can hide their earnings from the tax man. i hear all these entitled servers on this thread calling ppl 'unclassy' for not wanting to tip. yet they are the ones not paying their fair share of taxes.

If you spent a thousand at a restaurant, which you never would because you're not capable, an 18% gratuity would automatically be added.

If you don't wanna tip. Don't tip. No need to be all vocal. Just take advantage of the service and leave it at that. Same with the servers getting stiffed. Just chalk it up to the game and move on. Some generous person will make up for it and balance every out.
