Kobe lit the guy up like a cheap tiki torch and Artest just fell into the trap like he always does then to top it off was a no show for the most part in the Houston series. Artest is fine right where he is now, he's does far more for the Lakers being a Rocket then he would being a Laker

The man is 31 years old now, been in the league going on 11 seasons, on his 4th team and people are still waiting for him to find his niche, the team where he can shine. It's not coming folks, his best defensive days are over (both steals and blocks far below his average this past season), this season he had one of his worst seasons ever efficiency wise.

This is not the type of player you waste even the MLE on or sign to a contract of any length, Lakers need to take positive steps. Let the Rockets sign him to another 9 million per year contract. The Lakers don't need him for that kind of money.

Come on, I already know about your hatred of Artest and that you wouldn't trade Luke for him straight up for the same salary

The guy brings it every game....like I say with Phil he would be like Rodman was. No Question.

Artest isn't a smart player.

He can't fit a role like Lamar has. Lamar doesn't take away shots from anyone. Artest wants shots and he is a major chucker.

His defense is past its best days, Ariza is better today.

Odom's size and versatility is so damn underrated it's unbelievable. He can guard and play multiple positions. He is a much better rebounder than Artest and shoots at a better FG%.

Some of the games we won vs. Houston was because Artest was just chucking and chucking.

Phil could control his ego but not style of play.

it's not hatred it's common sense, I look at the guys career and see nothing but one implosion after another, people who think artest is suddenly going to change stripes and become something he is incapable of becoming are just fooling themselves.

you can't compare rodman to artest, rodam was crazy because he wanted to be, there's a reason the reporters in houston call artest "crazy pills"

Honestly look at his career and tell me one team that has benefitted from his being on the squad long term? and Phil controlling him? Phil's not even sure he wants to coach anymore because he doesn't have the energy. You tell him he's got to babysit ron and the guy will be sitting on his front porch watching the trout jump on flat head lake next june...lol

Artest is the type of player you sign when you're trying to get off the mat, when you're willing to take a gamble. not when you're at the top of the hill trying to stay there. the lakers need minor tweaks not large scale changes.

You also say odom was good because he was in a contract year? so was artest.

lastly artest is looking at a 9 million dollar yearly payday and the lakers have zero way to pull off an artest signing unless it's a sign and trade deal and then there you are again taking apart a championship roster to bring in an unknown factor...

it's just solid basketball knowledge you don't tear something down and rebuild something if it works

I'll stick with Kobe on this one, bring back odom and ariza there is no discussion

Agree with all of the above

You also have to factor in chemistry wise, Lamar is the most liked guy on the team. He gets on with everybody and always lightens the mood in the locker room. Thats forgetting how good a player he is and what he brings to the table. Far more than Artest does IMO.

That's not fair. Artest had to chuck because his team was weak on offense. If the Rockets had a healthy T-Mac or Kobe Bryant, Artest would take fewer shots and have a higher FG%. Artest is a great defender (except for those gambles against Kobe) and can do a lot of things.

If you think Artest would be a much better team player in this system than luke walton as a starter, you're not only very wrong, but i'd worry if you were going to coach my son's team .

Don't get me wrong DK you know im a huge artest fan. Just not on a championship team. This guy was on Indiana with Regge Miller and JO in his prime, Jamaal Tinsley, and they still couldn't win a championship, let alone get to the finals with Ron Artest on the team.

Rockets fans right now are telling me they don't want ron artest if he asks for 8 million or more, what the heck does that tell you? lol
