Philedelphia Daily News just posted a piece that John Salmons agent has confirmed that Salmons will sign with Toronto for 5 years & 23 million. Here's the text:
"John Salmons has made his decision, and it’s Toronto.
Salmons, a 4-year veteran with the 76ers, has agreed to a sign-and-trade that will send him to the Raptors. He chose Toronto over an opportunity to join the Phoenix Suns.
Salmons, 26, has agreed to the terms of a 5-year contract worth $23 million.
The Sixers will receive a second-round draft choice and a $2 million trade exception.
“John had two great choices and chose Toronto based on a variety of factors,” Salmons’ agent Joel Bell told the Daily News this afternoon. “He wanted to think through all the possibilities before he reached a decision.”
Bell also represents Sixers’ Bobby Jones and Shavlik Randolph.
The Raptors apparently need to make at least one other roster move before they can officially sign Salmons. That might not happen for about 7 days.
Salmons averaged a career-best 7.5 points last season, appearing in all 82 games and starting 24; he also contributed 2.7 assists and 2.7 rebounds in 25.1 minutes."
I like the pick up, Salmons is not a superstar by any stretch but he is a good player who can contribute at either guard possition. I thought he was under used in Philla and has potential. I see him being compariable to Mo Pete when he was 26 but not as much perimeter focused. Anyways, It sure beats Eddie House. Still would have preferred Fred Jones. But Five years at what 4.3 or something. I think that is acceptable. The rotation is starting to come together and all these new players are making things interesting to say the least and I am so happy that at least our bench is going to be made up of individuals that can contribute, not like the Arujio's, Williams, etc. P.s I wish we could dump Alvin's contract, love the heart but gotta go. And dont resign Loren Woods Please.
Yup Salmons is indeed coming and I think this will be a Boris Diaw type signing for Colangelo. Salmons will bring his versatility and his 3 ball so we will still have some outside shooting. A guy who is 6'7 who can play point and has handles is something we needed. He will provide depth to the bench, he is entering his prime. He's gonna have a fresh start and I am sure he will take advantage of that.
Wow, you know our team is REALLY starting to gain credibility when free agents are choosing T-Dot over teams like Phoenix, a western conferance powerhouse. I mean it's only Salmons and not Pierce or somebody like that but it is still nice to know that players (besides europeans) are actually wanting to play here.
What i like about all the free agent pick ups is that they are all reasonable paid. I am glad BC didnt swing for the fences and overpay someone like wallace, wilcox. If these new guys dont work out they wont be that hard to dump. They still wont make the playoffs but, they will be very competitive.
