The reason they keep getting fatter is because of the media deals they make in recent years. Not because more people are watching baseball than ever, because it's the opposite. TV rating wise and attendance wise baseball is less popular now than it's been in the last 20-30 years.

The combination of the markets, media deals nad the fact that the MLB has no salary cap lets these players get paid crazy amounts of money, when compared to the NFL and NBA less people watch these games than the other two sports.

So the contracts are laughable when less people watch these games no than ever.

I can't watch every game, but I will follow along if it's close. For instance, I got the alert that it's a close game after 8 innings (cbs app) so I said WHY THE HELL NOT, and put it on and BOOM Mets big inning including one of their youngin's first monster HR

No one should have the patience to watch 9 innings every day. Unless it's a playoff game. But I can try to watch an inning or 2 often enough... so it's up to the Mets to keep my interest.
