And yet those that you would think it would offend, are not.

Change the name to the Washington Natives or Native Americans. Who cares.

The PC pussification of this country is a slow, rotting disease.

ESPN already took a poll and 71% is in favor of the name. Dan Snyder owns the team and he likes it too. There will be no changing of the name.

Football fans are pretty hardcore and I don't think anyone will force them to change their name. It is not going to make people stop rooting for the team.

One of the stupidest thing ever. Like I mentioned before the Native Americans are quite proud of the name.

I find it sad that something like this is a non-issue and then we have people that try to turn it into an issue. Suddenly there are so many people with an opinion about it, so they either stand for it or against it. It forces those didn't care before to now care. They are forcing us to choose sides.

The Redskins have been in the league for the longest time and why now? Shouldn't it have already been done years ago?

If the NFL players are not offended then I think we should keep the name.

Just change it to the Whiteskins.

    Mascot:

Because you know liberals aren't gonna whine about anything that might offend a white person. It wouldn't be cool and contrarian enough. And you'd probably get a ton of regular white folk who would celebrate it and make them their favorite team. So it's a win all around.

Then the libs will have to pick up their base camp and move it over to Minnesota for using an unacceptable term to describe Scandanavian-Americans.

Or perhaps to Jacksonville for creating the perception that Jaguars are fearsome creatures and dangerous to man, when really that's just a misunderstanding and they need to be protected.

Maybe to New England, where they're just using manipulative propaganda to influence their fans that george bush would be proud of.

Rest assured, they WILL find something. There's always something new to complain about, because it creates a feeling of self-importance and power. This has nothing to do with native americans. It has to do with liberals being bored and wanting to flex their power and showing off their moral superiority. It's a flex move. They don't give a shit about Injuns.

No, probably some white leftist puss-bag that has decided that if natives aren't offended, they should be.

in the espn segment that 9er cited where they recently found that 71% supported the name, they also mentioned that this was down from 80% support just a few years ago. thats a pretty enormous shift, if that poll is representative of the entire american population that would mean ~30 million people have shifted their opinion in the past few years.

so yes, it does seem that we had some sort of recent revelation.

What it means is more people are being guilted by the media's recent focus on it into pretending they care when someone puts them on the spot and asks them about it.

I wonder if you can find the numbers for me about how many Americans are involved in causes that help the real life challenges many native communities face today and how it compares to number from some other year in time.

Also, like I mentioned before it is a non-issue that became an issue. It has also opened doors for people that didn't care to now having to choose sides. Guess what? When people start choosing sides, the numbers get shifted.

Liberal America: If you are not offended, we will be offended for you.

Here are similar takes on schools forcing to change their names:

"We have two great tribes here," says Kingston assistant school superintendent Ron Whipkey, "the Chicasaw and the Choctaw. And not one member of those tribes has ever come to me or our school with a complaint. It is a prideful thing to them."

"It's a name that honors the people," says Kingston English teacher Brett Hayes, who is Choctaw. "The word 'Oklahoma' itself is Choctaw for 'red people.' The students here don't want it changed. To them, it seems like it's just people who have no connection with the Native American culture, people out there trying to draw attention to themselves.

"My kids are really afraid we're going to lose the Redskin name. They say to me, 'They're not going to take it from us, are they, Dad?'"

Too late. White America has spoken. You aren't offended, so we'll be offended for you.
Same story with the Red Mesa (Ariz.) High School Redskins. They wear the name with fierce pride. They absolutely don't see it as an insult. But what do they know? The student body is only 99.3 percent Native American.

    Oklahoma means red skin.

Can't wait to see what some people's take on that is.
