150k miles , no other significant problems. Do you accept for 800$? Its from a friend. He lets you test drive it for a week+ , what are the key points to look for in the car to see if its good/bad

Re: Mazda 3 2007
i dont know too much about cars, but it seems like anything that runs and drives for $800 cant be that bad. take it to a mechanic and get it checked out.

I asked a car question on this forum once.
Once.
But for reals, I want to at least give you 1 more response than I got. (I'm not bitter though).
With one week test drive you should be able to make a fairly informed decision. See if you can't get the Carfax. Do some research on the car. There was a website I found when I was looking into a new car that had what to check for in particular models that was laid out nicely. I cannot remember it now. Carcomplaints is nice. If you have a mechanic you can ask him to look for basic used car stuff and then any common complaints you might find.

Re: Mazda 3 2007
do you know about Kelley Blue Book?
A 2007 Mazda3 with 150,000 miles in Fair Condition is worth 3,000.
So your friend is either giving you a deal or hiding something. In fact $800 might be his way of telling you something. Since it's quite low.
Have a mechanic look at it and ask if anything needs immediate replacing. Then ask how many miles before something will need to be replaced.
$800 is a steal on a working car. 150,000 miles on a recent and well maintained Mazda is nothing. Mazda makes good cars.

Re: Mazda 3 2007
$800? If it doesn't work u could sell it for more than that. Buy it.

Re: Mazda 3 2007
$800?? If it's a manual transmission I'd take it and never look back. Stick shift Mazda's are work horses that require very little maintenance.

Def get it looked at by a different mechanic, maybe bring it to a mazda dealership or somethin first.....
You could get more than $800 for taking that car to a junk yard, or probably 5-6k by parting it out.
Something is wrong with it. Or he has a crush on you.
And if not, buy it for $800 and sell it for $2500. Easy $1700. But then, why isn't he doing that? Hmm....

Re: Mazda 3 2007
Something must be seriously wrong with it if it's only $800. That's too low. It's a nice looking car.

Re: Mazda 3 2007
Honestly, for 800 bucks if you can drive it away and not smell burning or see any smoke, it's a deal. You could spend more than you want on transmission damage, but again for 800 bucks if you muscled a year out of it it'd be worth the money.

Re: Mazda 3 2007
That's a steal. As people mentioned before just take it inspected. Pay for peace of mind. You're going to have it inspected for registration anyway.
Keep in mind, that generation of Mazdas used recycled steel, and caused a lot of rust/paint problems. From the picture it doesnt' look like there's any problems tho.

Re: Mazda 3 2007
So I saw this thread and decided to check out some cheap ass cars on craigslist in my city (Toronto)
For 800 dollars, I can get a 5 series thats 15 years old with 300k. It needs a new alternator though. Anyone think there is some value in this?

I take it that it's not that car pictured right?
I would go get it checked out so you don't worry if anything is going to break down.
