Apparently he is starting to climb the draft board with solid workouts in Vegas.
Athletic Small Forward that is know as a workhorse on the court and an excellent rebounder. Some comparisons include shawn marion and gerald wallace.
Good points by both of you. He's a guy with the ceiling of a Wallace type player, but if he doesn't improve his skills he might end up just being another Joey Graham.
I think of Irving and Kanter are both gone by the time we pick, he might not be a bad option. He's a defense-first, slashing, athletic Small Forward. I don't think he'll ever be the best player on any team, but a solid guy to have in a starting lineup (if he reaches his potential).
In a weak draft, I would consider it a successful pick if he could be that player.
I'm not a fan of wing players who rely on athleticism but have no noticeable skills. It's more forgiveable when it comes to frontcourt players. I want these guys to show some competency in key areas like shooting, ball-handling, passing... key guard/wing skills. The ideal scenario for these guys might be a Gerald Wallace but I'd sooner bet money on a player of this type becoming a Corey Brewer (who sucks) because there's been so many of them.
Even now we're kind of seeing with Derzoan. He had a decent mid-range game at USC but the rest of it was all based on his athleticism. Right now, he's still lacking in those other major skill areas where you can't say he is for sure going to be a good starter at the NBA level.
