Default The Wilt record that no one today could match.

People on this site debate Wilt all the time (although much less so since a certain somebody left) and one Wilt record that I think is not only criminally underrated but actually his most impressive... AND it translates to today's game.

Minutes!!!

In 61-62 he played 48.5 minutes a game! Which if you're counting is more minutes than there are in a game. He achieved this record by playing every minute of a few overtime games as well. Not only that the top 7 most minutes per game season all belong to wilt. I hear players today talking about how tired they are when they're playing 38-41 mpg.

Just so we're clear while I do think his scoring and rebounding are impressive It's clear to me that there is NO WAY IN HELL he could put up those kind of numbers in any other era than the one he played in. I do think he would be the best center in Today's game by a country mile but I'm guessing he would (If his team made him the #1 option) put up numbers more like 32 and 16. MAX but more realistically something like 28 -15

So while pace clearly affects his gaudy scoring and rebounding numbers In my opinion the pace only adds to how impressive the minutes he played were.

Can you imagine Durant or lebron or Harden playing at that pace and playing every single possible minutes of the season?

The title of the thread makes it seem as if there wasn't more than one.

True. I guess I mean that we can scale back some of his other numbers based on pace and his infatuation with his own numbers but the minutes are completely comparable to today's game.

People say all the time that Jordan/kobe/lebron could put up ridiculous number if they were transported to that era and maybe they're right but even if that is true I still don't see anyone from any era playing that many minutes.
