Yeah, it sounds like a P.R. move more than anything else. It's complete BS. No one forced him to trade Melo. Had the Nuggets told him, "No, we aren't going to trade you. If you want to leave, then sign somewhere this summer" he probably would've taken the $65 million extension.

He also tried to imply he was sorry he was "forced" to ship out Billups with Carmelo. he apoligized to Billups. They are trying to spin in Denver than Melo, forcing his way out put them in the position where they had to ship out Billups too whcih they didn't want to do. Considering every single deal with the Nets/Knicks had them sending out Billups to for extra pieces, and the Kniicks including Felton was something the Knicks had to give in on, i find that very disingenuous.

Keeping Billups on with that contract through a rebuilding phase wouldn't make sense. He didn't truly have to trade him but it was the wise thing to do in spite of emotional attachments.

They still did not need to trade him. Trading him had nothing to do with the Knicks or Melo. If they did it because it made sense for them, it still was them and not Melo or the Knicks. They traded him to get an extra tradable asset in Felton - no one forced them to do that.
