LeBron James was supportive of Mike Brown on Friday, hours after his former coach was fired by the Los Angeles Lakers.

James said Brown was given too little time (71 games overall) in LA.

“I just don’t think he got a fair shake, honestly,” James said after the Miami Heat's victory Friday in Atlanta, according to The Palm Beach Post. “With the shortened (66-game) season last year, five games into this season, he really didn’t get a full season. I got a lot to say, but I’m not going to say it right now.”

Brown was fired after the Lakers began this season 1-4. LA blew out the Golden State Warriors on Friday night with assistant Bernie Bickerstaff in charge.

Reports on Friday said Phil Jackson and Mike D'Antoni are the top candidates to replace Brown on a full-time basis.

James' support of Brown may be a surprise to some. He was believed to be behind Brown's firing by the Cleveland Cavaliers, a charge James has denied. James told reporters Friday that he would try to get in touch with Brown.

Firing a coach in season basically ends the season. I doubt a team can comeback from this and go on to win a championship. They already had a lot of change that they needed to incorporate and now made that process that much more difficult.

Not really.. all they need to do is make the playoffs (which they will). That's a long time away for them to figure out their play style with the new coach and be ready for playoffs.

Finally! Hiring Mike Brown was a terrible move as any sane basketball fan has been saying since the hire was made. Especially considering the other coaches that were available at the time. But hey, if it means bringing back the Zen Master, it will be all worth it.

Ok I'll admit I was wrong it completely slipped my mind that it has happened before and that it wasn't too long ago as well. With that being said it is still going to be a tall order for the Lakers to win this season with all the changes taking place. My belief is some continuity is needed for success to take hold but if anyone has the talent level to overcome adversity then the Lakers would be a good choice to follow some of those other teams that accomplished winning a title.
