Default With the first pick in the 2009 NFL draft, the Detroit Lions select Jason Smith

Quote:
KFFL posted an item late Sunday saying that the website has "learned" the Lions will take Baylor LT Jason Smith with the No. 1 pick in the draft.

KFFL is usually very accurate, but it rarely reports anything and there are no sources cited. It's also still over a month away from the draft, leaving plenty of room for skepticism. That the Lions have begun contract talks with their No. 1 pick to be makes it possible, however, that they've settled on Smith. He is probably willing to take a deal only slightly larger than Jake Long's.

just passing on what right now is a rumor...

but I am betting it is true...

Pretty damn early to be negotiating a deal isn't it? A lot could still happen.

it may not be true, but its also very plausible. don't see any particular reason to doubt it.

I didn't keep up with the Cutler thing...

is he staying with Denver???

if not then Sanchez could end up there...or Stafford

which ever one the 49ers don't take...

looks like they are negotiating with alot of players

Quote:
The Detroit Lions have already begun negotiating contracts with the players they're considering choosing with the first overall draft pick.

Team president Tom Lewand told reporters today that the Lions want to get a deal done quickly and want to set parameters with the agents and the players before the month ends.

In the mix as potential No. 1 picks are Georga QB Matthew Stafford, Wake Forest LB Aaron Curry, Virginia OT Eugene Monroe and Baylor OT Jason Smith.
