If LeBron does win his 3rd MVP this season he'll join:
Michael Jordan
Magic Johnson
Larry Bird
Moses Malone
Kareem Abdul-Jabbar
Wilt Chamberlain
Bill Russell
...as one of the only players to ever win the award 3 times. This is something Kobe, Shaq, Hakeem, Oscar, Dr. J, Tim Duncan etc. all failed to do.
Championship or not, if it happens, can't we all now agree that LeBron James is one of the greatest players ever? Instead of debating if he's great or not, shouldn't the conversation be about how great?

It's ring or nothing for LeBron now, whether or not that's the right way to be judged.

That makes no sense though. Generally, people rank Barkley and Malone in the top 20 players ever and neither has a ring. Why should LeBron be shunned from the conversation?

I'm not saying I agree with it, but the general consensus is that he MUST win a ring to be considered there. Blame the media for hyping him, and I guess himself for the 'not 1 not 2' comment.
If his Finals stats and performances weren't so pathetic, people wouldn't question his greatness that much.
That's basically all LeBron haters have on him right now. 4th quarter bitch, mental midget, choker, etc...
All the greats go through that kind of criticism. Magic is probably the only exception.
Throughout the early-to-mid 2000's, Kobe had his critics and doubters too, that he wasn't a leader, that he couldn't win as the main man. Took him 9 years to prove his doubters wrong.

He'll be in the Top 15-25 range without a ring.
But people expect more out of him(should be in Top 10) because how much hype and coverage he received coming out of high school and in the NBA.

Tragic Johnson. He went through his fair share as well.
