I'll give it a crack. Many are compilations instead of studio albums :

    Sonny Rollins - Saxophone Collosuss
    Coltrane- Giant Steps
Rashaan Roland Kirk - Rip Pig Panic/ Edith or Inflated Tear ( with reservations poor sidemen)

Charlie Parker - Complete Dial/ Savoy Master takes

Eric Dolphy- Out to Lunch ( oddly stimulating/ interesting)

    Bud Powell-Scene Changes
    Duke Ellington - 1926-1949 Masterpieces ( box set/ overview)

    Art Taum- Solo Masterpieces

Sun Ra - Jazz in Silhouette
Horace Silver - Jody Grind ( basic harbop but I love that Album).

Thelonius Monk - Complete Blue Note

Hard to leave Thelonius Monk off the top 5 jazz pianists just because of how innovative he was.

Bill Evans is my #1 on piano though
Fav Coltrane album is Blue Train for me, but I understand why some people have Love Supreme as #1.

My #2 tenor player is Dexter Gordon - Our Man in Paris being my fav album.

Also, the Sonny Stitt/Dexter Gordon album w/ Tenor Madness is ****ing insane.

Really like this thread though. Please list more albums you guys recommend checking out from any artists your listing in this thread.

If you like Jim Hall/Bill Evans, definitely check out Interplay if you haven't yet. Such a solid album

I'd take off the various compilations in place of studio albums.

GO! by Dexter Gordon is excellent as well.

I need to give a shout out to Charles Mingus who I couldn't really place since he was mostly a composer and bandleader and Pithecanthropus Erectus is one of my favorite albums of all time. Check out JR Monterose who played tenor on that album.

Still I think Phil Woods is the absolute GOAT. He inherited the sound of Parker and improved and refined it to the likes of perfection.

I need that Bud Bowell Amazing Bud Powell Volume 2, can never seem to find it anywhere.

Wondering what people here think of John Zorn---lots of jazz aficionados have him GOAT-level status whereas others despise his sound.
