I don't know but it's very disappointing. Not attacking the rim, not being aggressive enough was THE reason why they lost in the NBA Finals. If that isn't enough reason to make it the #1 focus in the offseason and training camp then I don't know what is. You would think they would be tuned in on that aspect and would have worked on it hard all during training camp to the point that it's no longer a problem but the first game of the season, they looked EXACTLY like they did in the Finals. It's just the mentality of the team's best players. When opposing defenses get tough, they resort to what they know best. Shooting jumpers. And then, probably the only pure slasher they have in Devin Harris, looked hesitant last night and didn't have that aggressive attitude we saw from him in the playoffs.
Then, in the final 3 minutes of the 4th quarter, Dallas WAS getting open looks at the basket but since they decided to keep shooting and missed bad jumpers in the 3rd quarter, they went so cold that it carried over to the 4th quarter. Missing shots can be contagious and we saw how it affects players.
