This would be my sentiments exactly.

I think part of the larger problem with The Pacific from a story telling perspective is that it was assembled from more than one source material. So you had three sort of disjointed stories: Basilone, The Red Headed Doctor guy, and Lecky. All three were interesting, but it took about three or four episodes to really figure out they weren't connected. I kept looking, and trying to figure out the tie together, but it just wasn't there.
Band of Brothers really was a massive ensemble cast. The group felt like family. The scene where they come across the first concentration camp is some of the best stuff I've seen on film. And the battle sequence in the snowey forrest in France is incredible as well.

Plus, just from a narrative perspective, The Nazi's are about as good a bad guy as your ever gonna find. The Japanese, in spite of the fact that they actually attacked US soil, just aren't as compelling an enemy. In fact their insane commitment to the cause actually gives them a certain nobility, and they don't have the concentration camp stuff to fall back on as pure evil.

ask the Chinese how they feel about the Japanese. They were pretty awful as well.
